White Grizzly

White Grizzly is one of the longest-running snowcat skiing operations in BC, delivering authentic mountain experiences since 1998. In 2020, a group of backcountry enthusiasts from Nelson, BC took over the business to keep building on this legacy. We are committed to upholding the high standards of safety and guest experience that White Grizzly has been known for and to further improve all aspects of the operation.

Our mountains are famous for Kootenay Coldsmoke and are the perfect playground for advanced-expert riders who like steep trees, fun features, and good times ripping it up with friends in the backcountry. Nestled in one of BC’s most reliable snow belts, we get an average of 11-15m (that’s 36-50 ft) of snow each season. At White Grizzly it’s all about the skiing. Our guests tell us we have the most interesting terrain of any cat ski lodge they’ve been to. Our expert guides and small groups provide a more intimate mountain experience.

Backcountry Cat Skiing Adventure at White Grizzly

If you’re craving deep snow, challenging terrain, and unforgettable days in the backcountry, it’s time to ride the Koots. At White Grizzly, we offer one of the best backcountry cat skiing experiences in British Columbia  perfect for advanced to expert skiers and snowboarders who live for steep trees, natural features, and non-stop powder.

Legendary Snow and Terrain

Located in one of BC’s most reliable snow belts, White Grizzly averages between 11–15 metres (that’s 36–50 feet!) of fresh snow every season. We’re known for the famous Kootenay Coldsmoke, a light, dry powder that makes every turn feel like a dream.

Unlike some larger operations, we keep it personal  small groups, expert guides, and terrain that keeps even seasoned skiers on their toes. Guests often tell us we have the most exciting and unique terrain of any cat skiing lodge they’ve visited  even compared to popular spots like cat skiing Mustang, K3 Cat Skiing, or cat skiing in Mustang.

Getting Here Is Part of the Journey

Though we’re tucked away at the north end of Kootenay Lake, getting to White Grizzly is surprisingly simple. We’re just a 90-minute drive from Nelson, BC  a lively ski town that many of our guests explore before or after their trip. Some even pair their stay with a few days of skiing at nearby Whitewater Resort.

Why White Grizzly?

Whether you’ve cat skied before or this is your first backcountry experience, White Grizzly stands out for its terrain, snow quality, and authentic vibe. Compared to big-name operators like K3 Cat Skiing or cat skiing in Mustang, White Grizzly offers something truly personal: deep snow, fewer people, and more time to enjoy what really matters  the skiing.

Conclusion: Make It the Ski Trip of a Lifetime

If you're chasing real backcountry skiing, looking for untracked powder skiing, and want to experience one of BC’s best-kept secrets, White Grizzly delivers. With epic terrain, legendary snow, and a tight-knit crew, it's everything a true skier or boarder could want.
